Are cookies a security threat?
No, cookies cannot access your system or retrieve information
that isn't already broadcast by your web browser. Cookies cannot access
your hard drive or send information about your computer system. Cookies
are just simply a data storage system.
How do I Enable Cookies in my browser?
Below is a list of the most commonly used browsers with
instructions on how to enable cookies:
If you are not sure what browser version you are using:
From the browser's Help menu choose the last item labelled "About
[browser name]...". Macintosh users should go to the application name
menu or the Apple menu and select the first item labelled "About
[browser name]...".
Internet Explorer 6.0 users (Windows)
1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The
Internet Options dialog opens.
2. Locate for Privacy tab and click on it.
3. You should either see a slider or the word custom (if you see the word
custom, follow the instructions below for advanced users).
4. By default, this should be set to medium, if it is set at the top, move
it down until the word medium is displayed, as this is the highest level
which will allow the cookies to function and assist your access to the
information you need.
5. Click OK.
Instructions for advanced Users:
1. If you have not followed steps 4-5 above, do so now.
Click the Advanced... button.
2. Check Override automatic cookie handling and select “Accept”
under both "First party Cookies" and "Third party Cookies."
Also, Check "Always allow session cookies."
3. Click OK.
Internet Explorer 5.x (Windows)
1. Select "Tools/Internet Options..." from the main
menu.
2. Change to the "Security" tab.
3. Click "Custom Level..."
4. Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
5. To enable: Set "Allow cookie that are stored on your computer"
to "Enable". Set "Allow per-session cookies"
to "Enable".
6. To get a prompt: Set "Allow cookie that are stored on your
computer" to "Prompt". Set "Allow per-session
cookies" to "Prompt”.
7. Click "OK".
Internet Explorer 5.0/5.1 (MAC)
1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The Internet
Options dialog opens.
2. Select the Receiving Files link on the left.
3. Under Cookies, select Enable/Accept.
4. Click OK.
5. Locate the Web Browser link of the left .
6. Select Web Content.
7. Under the Active Content area, select Enable Scripting.
8. Click OK.
Opera 7.x
1. Select "Preferences..." from the File menu.
2. Select "Privacy".
3. To enable: Select "Enable cookies".
4. Click "OK".
Netscape Communicator 6.x
1. Select "Edit /Preferences..." from the main menu.

1. Select "Edit/Preferences..." from the main menu.
2. Select "Advanced".
3. To enable: Select "Accept all cookies" or "Accept only
cookies that get sent back to the originating server".
4. To disable: Select "Disable cookie".
5. To get a prompt: Check "Warn me before accepting a cookie" and
select "Accept all cookies" or "Accept only cookies that

6. Click "OK".
AOL 4.0
1. Go to My AOL .
2. Select Preferences .
3. Click on WWW.
4. Select the Security tab.
5. Click on the Custom Level button.
6. Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
7. Select "Enable".
8. Click OK".
Mozilla
1. Select theEDIT menu and then click PREFERENCES.
2. Select the PRIVACY & SECURITY tab then select the COOKIES
item .
3. Select either ENABLE ALL COOKIES or ENABLE COOKIES FOR THE
ORIGINATING WEBSITE ONLY, which we recommend.
Konqueror (Version 2)
